“What A Weekend” was
the words reflected when the members got
home from their annual weekend to the
loyalist Larkhall (Larky Derry). The boys
started early on the Friday morning heading
happily to the boat in Belfast.
The boat trip over was a great laugh and the
usual good old banter of the Whiterock flute
band. The 2 hour bus journey was just as fun
with jokes and friendly banter from the boys
in the band.
When the band landed in Larkhall it was
party time once again. The first stop was to
the hotel to get ourselves sorted, then it
was a venture into the main town to see all
our old friends from the years gone by in
Larkhall. I have to mention that the
Hospitality that is given to the Whiterock
flute band by the people of Larkhall is
exceptional.
The boys all headed to Motherwell on the
Friday for booze up. We visited bars such as
the mega bar and fair park it was a great
night for everyone. The younger boys in the
band were looked after by LOL 933 were they
said they had a great time.
The morning after the night before there
was a couple of upside-down smiles. Wouldn’t
like to name no one so we will call him
Chewbacca. The band met at the masters house
were we played a wee spot in Europe standing
and then took off for our exciting and
atmospheric day for all.
The parade in Holy town was of a great size
and was attended by bands from all over the
UK. I enjoyed listening to the sound of the
black skull, Craigneuk TD and not forgetting
the county. The crowds that were out in
force to see the parade were all full of
atmosphere. One girl even had the slogan "W.F.B
F***N BRILLAINT" on her top as can be seen
on the left.
On the return into Larkhall the band played
to a strong well turned out crowd and the
reception that was gave to the band was
second to none.
That night the band all went out with the
members of LOL 933 for a good drink to
celebrate the day that was enjoyed by all.
There was even a couple of solo artists got
up from the band and sang to the crowd.
The weekend was ended on Sunday when we had
a goodbye drink with the band supporters and
the members of LOL 933 in the snooker hall.
We said our goodbyes and we then headed home
to mystical old Belfast once again. With
nothing but laughs and sing songs the whole
way home. Even had a wee dance while the
police searched us at stranrear.
The Whiterock Flute Band Would Like To
